Fire and Desire

Had another interesting conversation today. I called a friend of mine and we were just catching up and stuff like that. One thing she said to me that stuck with me.

"I'm hungry!"

She is hungry to succeed in being a web developer entrepreneur. That crazy thing is that I heard the hunger in her voice. If she keeps it, nothing will stop her from making her dream a reality.

But then I got to thinking, when was the last time I was that hungry about something. I had to go back to 2002 - 2003. Nothing could stop me from doing anything. I told myself I was going to get a bartending license, my bachelors degree, travel, maintain a relationship, transition into corporate america, and work part-time. My motivation at that time was proving I could survive flawlessly without the military. Since then, I've been in cruise control. I've had things I set out to accomplish and did it. But I haven't been hungry. I haven't had that fire in my eyes. I think its partially because my mind is focused on spiritual growth and traveling, and less about achieving personal materialistic goals.

Its like once you accomplish your initial life goals, we get comfortable and lazy, while the next person is watching and plotting to take over at the first opportunity. Then next thing you know, you aren't what you use to be or where you want to be, and you have no idea how that happened. So I'm about to be proactive and prevent that from happening.

As I sit here and think, I've decided again for 2008 and beyond, my hunger will evolve around achieving some things that I've dragged around for a bit because I think its time for me to step away from corporate america. So I'm going to go on holiday vacation and come back, crazy hungry. Folks think I am accomplished and driven now, haha! Yeah, if you weren't around me in 2002-2003, then you have no idea whats about to occur.

I advise everyone to find something in life to be hungry about. Something to motivate you to have a look that "don't f**k with me" look in your eyes. Everyone needs something to push them. No regrets, get hungry.
