Tale of Two Cities
Lyrics | Beauty And The Beast lyrics - Tale As Old As Time lyrics
I heard this conversation on the radio the other day, and I had this exact same conversation a couple of days ago. And so, I am going to share it with you all.
As you may already know, I am living in the Baltimore-Washington DC area. Been here for the better part of this decade because of the job and school. I was born and raised in Detroit. When I think about these areas I see some similarities and some differences. Its easy to talk about the things these areas have in common, but I want to focus on why my heart will always remain in Detroit. First, I am blue collar, meaning I am all about the hustle and finding ways to make it. I love to get out and get my hands dirty. Another reason why my heart is there is because of the respect for family. I'll talk more about that in a second. But if you cut me open, I bleed blue collar not white collar.
The B-W area is corporate and government. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is also an area that indirectly encourages independence. And that is good and bad. Its good because people need to learn how to survive on their own, but it is bad because it shuts people down from the family/unity structure. They stop cooking and seem to only order out. They are perfectly fine with growing old alone. They do not know how to compromise. They don't give hugs or show love to one another.
I'm saying all this because I want us to get back to the basics of togetherness. Its all about family, and as I've said before, there is nothing more important in life. Creating a legacy with a partner and passing that legacy on to your children so they can develop it more, is the best thing in life. I don't like eating chinese food all day everyday, I want to have the homecooked Sunday dinners with family. Whatever happened to hugging to show each other love and admiration. Hug your fellow man, show them love and appreciation. I made sure I do that at every social function I am at. Give me a hug dangit, lol.
Now I'm not saying the people in the B-W area are the opposite of everything that I just mentioned. I just have noticed some trends in this area that I do not like.
Case and point: When I compare all of my friends in the B-W area against Detroit, here is the main difference...all of my boys in Detroit are engaged, married or been dating someone for a while. Pretty much every woman in Detroit I know is taken or ready to be taken. Now all of my boys in the B-W area, except 2, are single. Every woman I know in the B-W area, except 2, are single.
Whats up with that :-(
